About the Games
Eligibility to Participate
The competition is open to participants aged 4 to 17 years old (under parental/guardian supervision) and adults over 18 years old who are recognized members of ABADÁ-Capoeira. Members and associates of ABADÁ-Capoeira Australia directly involved in the event organisation are excluded from participating in the Competition.
By entering the competition, you confirm you are eligible to do so and you are eligible to receive any prizes that may be awarded to you.
Each participant is limited to a single entry in the competition, and there is a designated registration fee established by ABADÁ-Capoeira Australia for this event, to which competitors agree upon registering for the competition.
The Awards
According to the principles and traditions upheld by ABADÁ-Capoeira Australia, it is important to clarify that our competitions do not offer prizes in the form of money or any financial value. Instead, participants are honoured and recognized through the presentation of medals and trophies, symbolising their achievements during an ABADÁ-Capoeira competition. These awards are emblematic of our respect for the dedication, skill, and spirit demonstrated by each participant, fostering a sense of camaraderie and celebration within our community. Our focus remains steadfast on promoting the cultural and artistic richness of Capoeira, and these symbolic awards serve to highlight individual achievements while maintaining the traditional values that underpin our organisation. We invite all participants to engage wholeheartedly in the spirit of friendly competition and mutual respect, knowing that their efforts will be celebrated and honoured through these meaningful gestures of recognition.
Competitors who advance to the finals, ranked from fourth to first place in their respective categories, will receive trophies to commemorate their placement. Additionally, alongside these trophies, they will also receive medals recognizing their outstanding performances in each style within their category.
- Children compete in the Festival and the solo competition (optional).
- Students from Corda Crua-Amarela up to Amarela-Laranja compete in one style (São Bento da Abadá); students Corda Laranja and Corda Laranja-Azul compete in the Festival in two styles (Benguela and São Bento da Abadá) and in the solo/berimbau competitions (optional).
- Graduate students (Corda Azul) and above compete in the Games in three styles (Benguela, Siriúna, and São Bento da Abadá) and in the solo/berimbau competitions (optional).
The prize is non-transferable and cannot be exchanged, and no cash alternatives will be provided. We reserve the right to substitute prizes of equal or greater value if circumstances beyond our control require doing so.
ABADÁ-Capoeira Australia’s decision on any aspect of the competition is final and binding, and there will be no correspondence about it.
Difference between Festival and Games
ABADÁ-Capoeira Festival
All student categories up to the Orange-Blue Belt are considered part of the Festival. The top four finalists compete solely to win the best games of Benguela and São Bento Grande of ABADÁ, and are recognized as the best players in their category.
Festival Categories (by Belt)
- Kids (up to Ponta-Azul)
- Cru-Amarela
- Amarela to Amarela-Laranja
- Laranja to Laranja-Azul
ABADÁ-Capoeira Games
The competition we call the Games includes all categories starting from the Blue Belt (Graduate Student). Players compete for placements from first (1st) to fourth (4th) positions. Highlights in the best games of Benguela, Siriúna, and São Bento da ABADÁ are decided by the judges throughout the entire competition.
Games Categories (by Belt)
- Azul to Azul-Verde
- Verde to Verde Roxa
- Roxa to Roxa-Marrom
- Marrom to Marrom-Vermelho
Category Divisions
By weight
In other competitions of our school, categories are also separated by weight, but since we do not have a large number of competitors, maybe we will not have these divisions.
Estagiário
Any Estagiário (student under probation who are joining the school) are allowed to compete under the decision of their teacher in relation to which Category they would have the equivalent level.
Berimbau and Solo Competition
Berimbau
The competitor must perform three (3) Berimbau strikes from ABADÁ-Capoeira of their choice. There is no age or belt limit to participate in this competition. The top four players will be awarded.
Solo
The competitors must perform a solo without time restrictions to showcase their skills and techniques from our ABADÁ school. Eight Capoeiristas will be chosen to perform another solo and determine the best solos.
Judges and Players Meeting
Before we start the games, we will have a meeting so that everyone knows what will be evaluated, which criteria the judges will pay more attention to, and which ones they want the players to avoid during the competition.
